Inzicht hoe het werk hierdoor verandert is nodig opdat medewerkers de benodigde skills ontwikkelen en om eventuele maatregelen te nemen tegen negatieve effecten op de kwaliteit van de arbeid. In 2020-2021 hebben wij de Technology Impact Methode (TIM) ingezet om het effect van technologische ontwikkelingen op de taken, benodigde skills en de kwaliteit van de arbeid van monteurs in de sector agrifood en netbeheer te bepalen. Dit hebben wij gedaan door middel van documentanalyse, interviews met technologie- en arbeidsexperts, (HR-)managers, monteurs en andere stakeholders. De TIM-analyse laat zien dat monteurs steeds meer data invoeren en moeten gebruiken bij onderhoud en reparatiewerkzaamheden, en meer moeten samenwerken met andere vakgebieden zoals leveranciers. De skills die de monteurs nu al nodig hebben blijven van belang, maar daarbij hebben monteurs meer (basale) digitale, analytische en communicatieve skills nodig. Technologische ontwikkelingen kunnen zowel een positieve als negatieve impact hebben op de kwaliteit van de arbeid. Het kan de autonomie inperken en het werk vergemakkelijken, maar de werkvariatie en ontwikkelmogelijkheden kunnen ook toenemen.
