And the year ahead promises to be full of opportunities for shared learning and collaboration \u2013 just take a look at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/euwin-events\/\"><strong>Events<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0section at the end of this Bulletin and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/call-for-papers\/\"><strong>Call for Papers<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for EUWIN\u2019s October\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/event\/the-future-of-workplace-innovation\/\"><strong>Conference<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Donostia-San Sebasti\u00e1n.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to believe that the Hi-Res project \u2013 the first attempt to conceptualise workplace innovation in Europe \u2013 was commissioned by the EU nearly a quarter of a century ago. The findings of the 2002\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learningplatform.freshthinkinglabs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Hi-Res-report.pdf\"><strong>report<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0still resonate with companies, policymakers and social partners today, but more importantly it began a movement which changed thinking about the future of work and organisations across Europe and the world. And EUWIN is proud to have played a leading role in that movement since 2013. You can read more about it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/ten-years-of-euwin-what-next\/\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course things continue to move on, and the concept of workplace innovation now lies at the heart of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu\/research-area\/industrial-research-and-innovation\/industry-50_en\"><strong>Industry 5.0<\/strong><\/a>, a key policy driver for the European Commission. \u2018Human-Centricity\u2019 in the workplace is one of the three pillars of Industry 5.0 along with Sustainability and Resilience, drawing heavily on the vast body of research and practice associated with workplace innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst many researchers, policymakers and companies focus on digitalisation, EUWIN shows that technology is not the right starting point. We need to start with what we already know \u2013 in short, with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/this-is-workplace-innovation\/\"><strong>actionable, evidence-based practices<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that lead to high performing, human-centric organisations. The question is then, \u201chow can digital technologies enhance worker skills and autonomy, self-managed teams, delegated decision-making, flatter organisations, employee-driven innovation, employee voice, and so on?\u201d EUWIN partners are engaged in exciting programmes of work to address this critical question, including the EU Horizon\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bridges5-0.eu\/\"><strong>BRIDGES 5.0<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0project.<\/p>\n<p>Given all this, we think it\u2019s timely to start this Bulletin with a short\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/the-future-of-workplace-innovation\/\"><strong>review<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0of workplace innovation and an assessment of its future by our old friends Richard Ennals and Frank Pot. Elsewhere you\u2019ll find articles on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/very-monotonous-work\/\"><strong>monotonous work<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/cybersecurity-and-workplace-innovation\/\"><strong>cybersecurity<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/334473012_Mining_40-the_Impact_of_New_Technology_from_a_Work_Place_Perspective\"><strong>mining technologies<\/strong><\/a>, all from a workplace innovation perspective. Plus there\u2019s news of two brilliant new EU-funded projects \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/trade-unions-drive-workplace-innovation\/\"><strong>BroadVoice<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(on trade union involvement in workplace innovation) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workplaceinnovation.eu\/workplace-health-and-wellbeing-orchestrated-by-sonata\/\"><strong>SONATA<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(on empowering employees to improve their workplaces through novel adaptive architectural solutions).<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an exciting time for the workplace innovation movement and we\u2019d love to hear your news, challenges and opportunities.
