Dat zijn de vragen die Peter Smulders, Frank Pot en Steven Dhondt zich stellen in dit artikel in ESB.<\/p>\n<p>Het profiel van de typisch innovatieve werknemer kan gekenschetst worden als een relatief oudere man met een hoge opleiding, voltijds werkend, in vaste dienst en op reguliere werktijden. Deze werknemer heeft relatief veel verandering in zijn functie meegemaakt en opleidingen gevolgd. De typisch innovatieve werknemer kan dus zowel gekarakteriseerd worden met inflexibele kenmerken (vaste dienst, voltijds werkzaam, regelmatige werktijden), als met flexibele kenmerken (bereid gebleken tot functieverandering en leren). Het &lsquo;dogma van de flexibele arbeidsmarkt&rsquo;, zoals Kotan (2011) dat uitdrukt, dient dus inderdaad enige relativering. Een drastisch streven naar flexibiliteit om innovatie te bewerkstelligen lijkt dus niet de juiste weg.<\/p>\n<p>Een belangrijke open vraag betreft de causaliteit van de begrippen flexibiliteit van arbeid en innovatie. Omdat geen longitudinaal onderzoek rond deze materie beschikbaar is, valt daar geen afdoende antwoord op te geven. Innovatief werk is werk voor hogeropgeleiden, die eisen stellen aan arbeidsvoorwaarden van de baan waarvoor ze in aanmerking willen komen.
