Bedrijven moeten vaak in werknemers investeren door ze op te leiden, en wanneer werknemers vrijwillig ontslag nemen gaat deze investering verloren. Het is daarom van groot belang dat bedrijven hun personeel ook na de training vast kunnen houden. In dit artikel wordt een onderzoek beschreven naar de relatie tussen formeel of informeel leren, en vrijwillig ontslag.<\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Theorie<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Wanneer werknemers meer vaardigheden en competenties verkrijgen, verbetert hun positie op de arbeidsmarkt, met als gevolg dat het makkelijker voor hun is om ander werk te zoeken en dus ontslag te nemen. Dit is lastig voor bedrijven omdat ze graag goed opgeleid personeel willen hebben, maar het investeren in deze opleidingen kan betekenen dat deze werknemers weggaan. De auteurs menen dat hoewel dit waar kan zijn voor werknemers die formeel leren, het waarschijnlijk niet het geval is voor werknemers die informeel leren van uitdagend werk.<br \/><\/span><br \/><span> <strong>Formele educatie<\/strong> &ndash; Werknemers die formeel leren, nemen deel aan cursussen of opleidingen om hun vaardigheden te verbeteren. Deze opleiding vindt vaak buiten de organisatie plaats volgens een gestandaardiseerd curriculum en is niet duidelijk met het dagelijks werk verbonden. Ook leidt formele educatie vaak tot een certificaat of ander bewijs. De voorselectie bij bedrijven maakt vaak gebruik van zulke documenten, waardoor het makkelijker wordt voor werknemers die formele educatie gevolgd hebben om ontslag te nemen. Het is dan ook niet verbazingwekkend dat onderzoek uit het verleden aangetoond heeft dat formele educatie geassocieerd is met meer ontslag.<\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><strong>Informeel leren<\/strong> &ndash; Onderzoek heeft aangetoond dat werknemers die uitdagende taken uitvoeren hier van kunnen leren. Deze informele vorm van leren vindt plaats binnen het bedrijf en is niet makkelijk herkenbaar voor andere werkgevers. Uit onderzoek blijkt ook dat&nbsp; werknemers die meer uitdagende taken uitvoeren meer gemotiveerd zijn en zich meer tevreden voelen met hun baan. De auteurs komen om deze rede uit op de hypothese dat deze informele en persoonlijke manier van leren gerelateerd zal zijn aan minder ontslagnames dan bij formeel leren.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Methode<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Hoe vaak deelnemers naar werk zochten, ontslag namen of overwogen om ontslag te nemen werd op twee keer gemeten, met twee jaar ertussen. Hun gedrag voor en na deze twee jaar werd vergeleken met de hoeveelheid uitdagende taken die ze ontvangen hadden en hoeveel ze dachten geleerd te hebben op hun werk.<\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Conclusie<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Werknemers die meer leerden door middel van uitdagend werk bleven vaker bij hun organisatie werken, en zochten minder naar ander werk. De auteurs stellen voor dat bedrijven formeel leren door middel van cursussen vervangen door meer informeel leren door uitdagende taken.
