Als input variabele voegden ze ICT (e-commerce en investeringen in breedband) toe aan R&amp;D. Proces- en organisatorische innovatie werden aan productinnovatie toegevoegd als output variabele.<br \/>Zij onderzochten met de data van de Community Innovation Survey (CIS) het effect van R&amp;D&nbsp; en ICT op innovatie-output en de relatie tussen innovatie (product-, proces-, organisatorische innovatie) en productiviteit.<\/p>\n<p>Het effect van R&amp;D is verschillend voor industrie en diensten. In de industrie heeft R&amp;D effect op alle drie de vormen van innovatie, maar in diensten kan dat bij geen van de drie vormen van innovatie worden vastgesteld. Dat betekent dat R&amp;D alleen in de industrie een goede maat is voor innovatie, het wordt echter vaak als een algemene indicator wordt gebruikt. Ten onrechte dus. <br \/>ICT is heel belangrijk voor innovatie-succes in de dienstensector. Dat geldt in veel mindere mate voor de industrie.<\/p>\n<p>Organisatorische innovatie is de enige vorm van innovatie die alleen tot verhoging van de productiviteit leidt. Product &ndash; en procesinnovatie leiden alleen wanneer zij gecombineerd worden met een organisatorische innovatie tot hogere productiviteit.
