Van augmentation is sprake als een technologie waarde toevoegt aan de taken die werkenden uitvoeren. Hij noemt een verandering \u2018automation\u2019 als de technologie taken van werkenden vervangt. Het eerste leidt tot groei van de werkgelegenheid; het tweede tot een afname.<br \/>\nHet is dus afhankelijk van waarin ge\u00efnvesteerd wordt of hoe nieuwe technologie wordt ingezet (organisational choice) of en welke nieuwe banen ontstaan. <\/p>\n<p>Autor stelt dat meer dan 60% van de banen in 2018 er in deze vorm niet waren in 1940.<br \/>\nAutor vreest dat door automatisering middenklasse banen zullen verdwijnen (zie ook het interview met hem in de NRC).
