Meestal wordt technologische vooruitgang in deze literatuur als een exogene schok beschouwd die de relatieve vraag naar arbeid met verschillende vaardigheden be\u00efnvloedt. In dit paper kiezen de auteurs als uitgangspunt dat de technologische transformatie het resultaat is van organisatorische keuzes. Daarom staat literatuur centraal die handelt over wat er stroomopwaarts in plaats van stroomafwaarts gebeurt in het innovatieproces.
